While working with Worldbuildr, we were contracted to collaborate with Super 78 on their newest project: Magic Screen. A joint venture between Super 78, Microsoft, and TV star and comedian Howie Mandel, Magic Screen brings Super 78's Geppetto real-time animation system to the silver screen by utilizing cloud-based rendering and streaming to allow it to be operated from anywhere. For Magic Screen, I was responsible for research and development of a streaming pipeline with minimal latency through Microsoft's Azure Cloud platform, while still maintaining the visual fidelity that Super 78 is known for. I built prototypes and explored many different protocols in the process, including technologies like WebRTC and SRT. I also learned a lot about the risks and benefits of tailoring off-the-shelf technologies to your needs versus developing your own custom solutions.
